Another month, another blog for me I think… I’ve had a very busy time of it lately. There’s been plenty to do with Reiki treatments and attunements and the Meditation Group etc. as well as the updates to the Web Site, Forum and Coffee Shop. I’ve been working hard and loving it as usual, but today, I’m feeling like I just want to ‘play’. You know, mess about with some of the computer programmes I have and see what comes up. To go back to my ‘Big Ideas’ book and see if I can find some ideas I haven’t developed yet, to thrill and excite you all!
And I seem to be getting much further doing this, than by rushing about trying to do everything at once. I’ve got my lovely Radio Rivendell on as I write, with beautiful fantasy music to inspire me and to help me stay chilled and a huge cup of coffee to enjoy as I play on the computer. I may even put a small candle on my desk if I’m still here this evening to add to the atmosphere! Well, why not?
People wherever I’ve worked have always been amused when I’ve put beautiful holiday pictures on my walls and a ‘Lord of the Rings’ calendar on my desk etc. but I find that these things help to brighten my working environment and give me something lovely to focus on during the day whenever I need to think or take a few minutes break.
And I believe that being more chilled-out can only add to our work experience. We go home feeling much better and more energised, which enables us to enjoy our evening more, and while our mind’s resting, or at play, we can be far more creative and come up with many more solutions to our problems than we would be able to if we were panicking and unable to think straight. After all, when we’re in a state of panic, our minds seem to just take a downward spiral somehow and we begin to wonder if there really is any way out of our problems at all.
So a tip from me… Find out whatever ‘turns you on’ chill-wise and do it if you can. Make your work space as beautiful as you know how, or can. Put out photos of your loved ones, your favourite holiday spot etc. If you can do it, try flowers or a nice aroma. (Lavender’s good for relaxing with.)
I used to say at work, “This picture of a sandy beach in the sunshine reminds me why I come here!” (To get paid, so that I can go on holiday.) Just my little joke, but it really did help when I was busy and ‘stressed out’ to stop and look at that photo and clear my mind a bit. See if it works for you…
